The US government has launched an official AI chatbot, America.gov, as a natural-language interface for citizens to ask questions about federal agency information and services, with answers based only on official government sources. The platform plans to expand next year to include Medicare enrollment, passport applications, and federal job searches, and will become the single entry point for Americans to access covered services online under a new executive order. Google has confirmed it is a technology partner, with the tool running at least partly on the Gemini platform.
Prince Harry warned at the Clinton Global Initiative that AI companion chatbots could be more dangerous to young people than social media, saying the technology is more persuasive, intimate and powerful and is learning to seek attachment rather than just attention. He recalled his 2024 warning about social media's role in youth anxiety, depression and isolation, and noted that The Parents Network, founded with Meghan through the Archewell Foundation, has made progress but faces a harder fight as technology evolves; he added that bans, settlements and payouts are not complete remedies.
