Apple researchers have published a study on Minions, a system that aggregates idle Apple Silicon GPUs from Macs into a dynamically scheduled virtual GPU cloud for large-scale machine learning inference. The system consists of four components and uses a pull-based task model; tests showed that inference tasks previously queued for over 10 hours could begin within minutes without adding GPU hardware. The project is currently an internal research effort, not a consumer product.
