AWS CEO Matt Garman said AWS revenue is around $160B-$170B, up 37% YoY, with huge AI demand keeping capital spending high in the near term. Growth drivers include enterprise cloud migration, startup compute demand, and agentic workflows; AWS is reserving scarce GPUs for startups and plans to buy 2 million Nvidia GPUs. Custom chips Graviton and Trainium are key, with Trainium sold out through end of 2027.
Ben Horowitz and Gagan Biyani announced the founding of Horowitz Andreessen Academy on an a16z podcast, advocating separating learning from building by sending students to intern at Databricks, NVIDIA, Stripe and other companies, immersed in the a16z startup ecosystem, in response to AI's impact on skill development.
a16z announced this week that it is investing in and incubating the independently operated Horowitz-Andreessen Institute in San Francisco, targeting high school graduates. The firm is investing $35 million, with total fundraising reaching $42 million. The institute will open in fall 2027, offering a one-year tuition-free program for about 50 students, with inaugural students promised over $50,000 in computing credits. Nvidia, Google, Meta, OpenAI, and other companies are founding partners, and Sam Altman, Jensen Huang, Fei-Fei Li, and others will teach.
