VSMC Inaugurates First Singapore Fab, Weighs Second Plant
By AI123
VSMC, the joint venture between Taiwan's Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors, inaugurated its first wafer fab in Singapore on September 28. Chairman Fang Lue, who also leads VIS, said the company is considering building a second Singapore fab to meet growing demand. The new plant could produce more advanced chips than the first one, but the technology has not been decided, making cost estimates premature.
The first fab broke ground in late 2024 and represents an estimated investment of US$7.8 billion. VIS is a TSMC affiliate.
