Alec Tarashansky, Anthropic technical team member and Claude Science development lead, announced he is joining AI healthcare company OpenEvidence. He holds a PhD in bioengineering from Stanford and worked at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative for three years; he brought the Claude Science prototype to Anthropic and helped develop it for about seven months.
OpenEvidence, an AI search service for doctors, has raised $250 million in a round backed by multiple hospital systems and Andreessen Horowitz, lifting its valuation to $15 billion, according to Business Insider on September 25. In January 2026, the company was valued at $12 billion; total funding over the past year exceeded $1 billion, with Nvidia among its investors.
Anthropic and medical knowledge platform OpenEvidence announced a partnership to provide a dedicated version of AI clinical decision support free of charge to medical workers in about 100 low- and middle-income countries, including Uganda, Angola, Sudan, Haiti and Mongolia. Anthropic provides backend technical support, while OpenEvidence customizes the system according to local healthcare infrastructure. The platform was previously available free to clinicians in the US and Europe, and has already collaborated with medical institutions in Rwanda and Botswana.
